Toothbrushing
technique
For
healthy teeth and gums a small headed medium/soft textured
manual or electric toothbrush is required along with fluoridated
toothpaste. A pea-sized amount of toothpaste is all
that is required.
Start
in either the upper or lower arch and work round from the
back left-hand molars to the front then around to the right-hand
molars, cleaning a small area at a time. Clean the
margin where tooth meets gum very carefully, on the cheek
side then
the tongue side. Lastly finish by brushing biting surfaces
before moving onto the other arch.
Toothbrushing should last about two minutes, so to help spend
the correct amount of time count six seconds for each tooth.
Using
a disclosing tablet is a good way of checking your brushing
technique. Available from most chemists, a disclosing
tablet contains a food dye, which will stain plaque and
debris
so it is easily visible and can be brushed away.
